The PS4 charging dock is one of the most recommended on the market. It doesn't use the PS4 console to charge, but rather plugs into a wall socket. Therefore, you can place the charging dock anywhere and connect your controllers through the headphone jack port. 
 
This device is safe to leave your controller connect as it won't over charge.
