It seems like the trusted MobiTraderSA website is starting to hurt scammers as more people discover how easy it is to sell directly to us. Scammers in Pretoria are now attempting to use our trusted name to try scam people in Pretoria.

MobiTraderSA will never ask for partial payments, web wallet payments, or any other anonymous payment. If you're looking for one of our trusted gaming console, contact us directly. We do NOT have any sellers working for MobiTraderSA anywhere in South Africa.

On 30 June 2024, one of our trusted gaming console repair partners, Ruiter Electrics, notified us of a scammer using the MobiTraderSA name in attempts to scam people in and around Pretoria.

As the images and details show, the scammer copied the content from one of our ads, hoping to fool buyers into trusting them and paying the R4,000 deposit before they courier the console. Of course, the courier would never happen and they seller would disappear without a trace once you've made the payment.

Facebook product description of scammers trying to sell PS5.

The scammer copied most of our wording for one of the second-hand PS5 consoles available at MobiTraderSA, including the description, what's included, and the fact that we offer free courier with all of our consoles.

However, the "upfront payment of R4,000" is the first sign of a scam. You'd most likely be asked to make an E-wallet payment, which is untraceable since it's not paid into a bank account, allowing the scammer to disappear after you've made the payment.

MobiTraderSA provides a wide range of trusted payment methods on the website, and we will never ask you to make E-wallet payments.

All out payment methods are easy to find since we only use trusted services such as card payments, EFT, and PayFlex.

Further Proof that this is a PS5 Scammer in Pretoria

While using our brand and content is enough proof that this is a scammer trying to fool buyers, we would like to point out other facts about the seller that shows us they should not be trusted.

Scammer Facebook account trying to sell PS5
  1. Fake name: The seller's name isn't a real name and they don't have a profile photo. Viewing their profile also revealed only a 4 photos, most of which were of products such as cameras. It's not what you'd expect to see from someone who actually uses the Facebook account as their personal account.

  2. Product Images are Pixelated: Zooming in on product images reveals unusual pixelations, which makes it seem like very low quality. While Facebook does decrease the photo quality, real product photos still have excellent quality and only show pixels when you zoom in very close.

  3. No Marketplace Ratings: When you buy or sell on Facebook, people can rate your service. Always be careful of accounts that do not have ratings, especially if they have multiple products. These are usually accounts that scammers have setup a while ago and plan to use them for a scam and then remove the account after the scam.
